We reached out to some emerging names entering the fashion industry to submit articles on topics they feel strongly about to give them a platform to share their thoughts...

“We all have a wonder woman inside us”- Diane Von Furstenburg.

 
2018 has been the year of the woman. Times up, the centenary of the suffragette movement and the gender pay gap argument have been key in helping women end the era of the glass ceiling. So we’re overcoming a lot!... but there is still work to be done.
 
Within the fashion industry the higher positions at age old fashion houses are held by males. But we’re feeling a shift… There has been mass attention in the media on Clare Waight Keller after we saw an elegant Meghan Markle walking down the aisle (to live every girl’s dream fairy tale) looking breath taking wearing a Givenchy gown. Nobody really had Givenchy down as an option but once it was done it made perfect sense for Meghan to pick this fashion house with a female, British designer, Waight Keller as its artistic director. For us at Neon Rose we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate our female CEO’s and look to them for what it takes to be a fashion ‘girl boss’.
 
Waight Keller has experience at some of the world's most well-known brands such as, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford to name a few. Clare has been widely praised in the industry for her ability to make brands wearable and extremely profitable, helping Chloé to become an extremely successful and iconic brand.
As the current artistic director of the Parisian fashion house Givenchy, she has taken the world by storm by dressing the world’s most desirable royal, The Duchess of Sussex. There’s no doubt that Clare Waight Keller is a woman to be reckoned with.

Along with Clare, Maria Grazia Chiuri is a sign of female empowerment within our modern fashion industry, as the first woman to direct Dior in its 70-year history. Dior has a legacy of celebrating female femininity – yet it has taken until 2018 to appoint a woman as head of the couture fashion house. Maria has brought a sense of freedom to the iconic brand keeping its femininity but making women feel strong within the clothing.
 
In 2016, after Raf Simons left Dior, Chiuri was announced as his successor. Her debut collection for Dior was at Paris Fashion Week in September 2016. The collection embodied the ethos of female empowerment matching masculine tailoring with feminist slogans and sheer layered dressing. Maria embodies Dior’s new brand of femininity, challenging stereotypes and making women feel confident in power dressing.
 
Girlboss herself Sophia Amoruso, the founder and CEO of Nasty Gal is a huge inspiration for us at Neon Rose. Amoruso started her brand from an eBay shop selling her vintage finds. She is now a New York Times best-seller inspiring a new generation of girls to build their dreams and take control of their futures.
 
Tory Burch is known for her successful brand, she is both the Creative Director and Chief Executive! Burch is a self-made billionaire with her clothing line, which was actually all set up from her own kitchen, inspiring or what? Today Burch’s ‘Tory Burch’ brand has a loyal following and makes ready-to-wear, accessories, footwear and even a fragrance line. Need I say any more reasons why Burch is an unstoppable girl boss? In 2014 Burch was named by Forbes as the 79th most powerful woman in the world, not bad for a business started from a kitchen.
 
Diane von Furstenberg took the fashion world by storm in 1973, due to her debut of her iconic jersey knit wrap dress. Von Furstenburg’s early work embodies our values of female empowerment and the independence of a generation of women. She carries on in her design career to be advanced in her work ad ground breaking. Diane doesn't show signs of giving in to the glass ceiling or slowing down her ambition with age.
 
I can’t possibly write a blog post about fashion female bosses without mentioning the great legend within the industry that is Anna Wintour, she’s both the Vogue Editor-in-Chief and Condé Nast Artistic Director and a fierce female! In my opinion no magazine editor is as successful or influential and Anna Wintour.
 
So we must shatter this metaphoric glass ceiling and believe in ourselves that we can achieve and be our own bosses! I’ve mentioned a few of the Neon Rose inspirations, but who is your girl boss inspiration?
